By: John Schofield

Do you cringe at the thought of repairing your computer by yourself? A million other people feel the same way, too. But what many of us do not know is that DIY computer repair is not complicated, and yes, you can do it too. This article will provide you with useful tips that will help you perform a DIY computer repair.

Here are some of the things you should not do, if you want to be able to correctly fix your computer problem.

1. Don't spend money for anti-virus software such as McAfee and Norton. These programs have too much advertising on them and are not really worth the amount they are being sold for.

2. Don't use programs such as Registry Cleaner, Registry Repair, and Reg Cure. They may have some benefits but they cause more harm than good.

3. Don't go to a repair shop if you can fix the problem yourself. A DIY computer repair could save you a lot of money.

Now that you know some of the basic don'ts, it is time for you to learn the do's.

The first thing you should know is to identify the problem is your PC is having. It is hard to get the right 'treatment' if you do not know what is causing it in the first place. So, how do you identify a problem anyway? There are many online resources you can use that will give you sufficient information about what the most common computer problems are, and how to identify them. Such information will not be included in this article because it can get quite lengthy. Simply 'Googling' the phrase 'common computer problems' will give you more details than you will ever need.

Lessons Learned

Many people often rely on computer technicians to fix any issues their PC might be having. The moment their computer would not turn on, they would immediately go to the nearest repair centre to have it fixed. Not only will this cost at least a hundred dollars (could be more for others), but then you would also have to wait a long time to be able to get back your PC. Some repair centres would take days to attend to your problem if they are so busy. Why would you have to go through all these hassles if you can fix it yourself and get it done within an hour or two? If you really aren't confident about this, you can always get technical support from the Internet for a much smaller fee than going to a repair shop. Moreover, you can also download comprehensive guides from websites. Some are free, while others charge a small fee for it.

Of course, there are times when a DIY computer repair wouldn't do, and in such instances, you need to ask expert help. Complex hardware problems need technical assistance in order for your computer to be working properly again. It is important that you should know exactly when it would be appropriate to get support.
